A Varanasi c’è una scuola per bambini indigenti ma combattivi, la Little Stars School di Asha Pandey.
La scuola accoglie i bambini e gli permette di studiare. Ogni giorno circa 400 studenti seguono le lezioni e nel pomeriggio tornano alle loro case.
All’interno della scuola è stato ricavato un ostello dove vive un gruppo di 21 bambine dai 4 ai 14 anni. Queste bimbe non tornano a casa perché non ce l’hanno, o perché non hanno i genitori perciò Asha si prende cura di loro anche negli orari extrascolastici.
Abbiamo pensato che per queste bimbe sarebbe un’ottima risorsa avere un orto, se possibile organico e irrigato con acqua distribuita da pompe alimentate ad energia solare .
Sarebbe una bella attività didattica, fonte di cibo gratutito e vitamine di cui le bimbe hanno un enorme bisogno .
Alla nostra proposta di realizzare un orto per la sua scuola, Asha ha risposto così:
“ Dear Bettina,
Thank you so much for following up with me. School began only 9 days before and we are still smoothing out our schedules for the new year. We will indeed need to rent a plot, there is one behind the school that I think we could get for 5,000 INR/Month. The man did not tell us yet. Other costs would be 20,000 INR to clean and prepare the plot, about 15,000 for seeds, and initial garden supplies. Also we would have to pay about 2,000 rupees a month to protect and maintain the plot.
35,000 INR initial costs
5,000/month x 12 = 60,000
2,000/month x 12 = 24,000
Total = 119000 INR for one year
After it should cost about 100,000 INR to maintain from year to year
This would be a great learning opportunities for the girls.
